Meeting THIS Saturday! South Memphis Town Hall! MATA Gets New Buses!

Greetings, transit warriors! MBRU’s next monthly meeting is THIS Saturday! Join us Saturday, July 14th from 12-2 PM as we talk about new developments in mobility, MATA’s upcoming budget, and doing outreach in the South Memphis area. We’ll be at A Step Ahead Foundation, on the 4th floor of the Crosstown Concourse!

Also, MBRU is officially announcing our first town hall of 2018! We want to get input from bus riders all over the city about what your transit needs are in your communities–so we’re coming to your neighborhood to listen. We will also have someone from the Shelby County Election Commission helping register people to vote! The first one will be in South Memphis: meet us Thursday, July 26th from 4-6 PM. We’ll be at Second Baptist Church at the corner of McLemore and Florida–right along the #12 and #17!

Finally, MATA recently received a $20 million grant to purchase 10 new electric buses, and to run a new bus route in Southeast Memphis! The grant comes from the Tennessee Department of Transportation, and is part of their CMAQ program to reduce air pollution. There’s no specific timeline for this project yet, but MATA says the new route will connect major employers in the southeast part of town like Memphis International Airport. Read about it in the Daily News here.
