Living the Legacy of Nonviolence Gala celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Mid-South Peace and Justice Center with Keynote address from author, activist and scholar Angela Davis.
Almost 35 years ago this organization was founded because our founders wisely felt that as Memphis was the city where Dr. Martin Luther King was murdered, that each of us, as Memphians, have a special responsibility and obligation to continue the work of Dr. King, Cesar Chavez, Dorothy Day, and others. Today, that message of hope, love for our community, and peace via the unapologetic pursuit of justice is needed now more than ever before.
The election of Donald Trump to the highest office in the land is a frightening and dangerous turning point for our nation, and the world, and represents the darkest parts of the soul of our nation.
Mid-South Peace and Justice Center sees Trump, and his "policies" of racism and hatred, as anathema to everything this organization stands for and we will, with every resource at our disposal, stand against an agenda that denies the dignity and humanity of people of color, undocumented families, women, people with disabilities, and those of the Muslim faith. These values are non-negotiable.
We are also proud to announce that on January 14, 2017, MSPJC will kick off the new year ready to push back against the forces of intolerance and hatred, while continuing to lift up the voices and power of our communities.
Join us at First Congo Church for a night of movement and setting the course of the struggles to come. Tickets are on sale now.
