Development and Support Trainings are offered to Community Organizer enrollees, graduates, and individuals and organizations in the larger community to enhance our organizing skill set. Trainings available include:

MEDIA 201

In this advanced media workshop we will focus on Media Planning, Framing your message, Pitching your story, talking points, and practicing advanced interviewing techniques.

NONVIOLENT COMMUNICATION

Explore and gain practice in specific skills for Nonviolent Communication, such as Active Listening and “I-messaging.” And explore and connect with the universal human needs and values.

PRIVILEGE & OPPRESSION AWARENESS

In this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to recognize privilege and oppression in themselves, in a safe space, as well as the opportunity to engage and discuss around these issues

FACILITATION SKILLS

In this workshop participants will have the opportunity to go through the characteristics of a good Facilitator and basic tools for effective facilitation, as a warm up for practicing facilitation skills when disruption happens based on participants real experiences.

GET OUT THE VOTE

At the GOTV training you will learn how to organize a Get Out The Vote operation in your own neighborhood. You will receive training in all the basic skills that you will need to be able to effectively: Register Voters, Door To Door Canvass, Phone bank, and Precinct Organizing. Your community’s vote is part of your community’s power. Use it and the candidates will come to you seeking your support.

INTRO TO ORGANIZING

Explore the different roles in social change with focus on grassroots community organizing, as a way for creating systematic change and keeping nonviolence as a foundation.

NONVIOLENT DIRECT ACTION

Learn about NVDA history and explore and gain practice in the different skills to to take action. This workshop can be  made for an specific campaign or action.

MARSHAL SKILLS TRAINING

Demonstrations play a crucial role in our movements. Rallies and marches display the power and discipline of a campaign which can increase the pressure for change. Organizers often call on volunteer marshals to help manage large groups of people, avoid internal disruption and prevent police violence. In this workshop participants with develop their skills for non-violent intervention and de-escalation. Join us as we prepare for the next action!

Development and Support Trainings are designed to both build skills and provide personal support structures for G.O.T. Power graduates or anyone engaged in organizing and community change work.
